Map of Where Bart Hiked to Complete his

Cultural Landscape

Photo Project

This map shows where Bart hiked 18,000 miles to complete his 17 year project

What does the term Cultural

Landscape mean?

It is defined by the World Heritage Committee as distinct geographical areas or properties uniquely representing the combined work of nature and of man.

A natural landscape is defined as one that is unaffected by human activity.

Part of culture is the involvement of human influence on the landscape through their thoughts and activities.

The National Scenic Trails are an example of an intentional decision to alter the natural landscape through trail building.

Simply put:

People building trails (cultural)

through areas of particular natural beauty (landscape)

Creates a cultural landscape.
